As an illustrator and art director, I created Birds of the World as a visual tribute to the beauty and diversity of global bird species. Commissioned by the International Ornithological Union, this project was an opportunity to merge scientific relevance with expressive design.

My goal was to craft illustrations that not only captured the unique traits of each species, but also invited reflection on their fragility in a rapidly changing world. By combining stylized form with restrained color and composition, I aimed to highlight both the elegance of avian life and the importance of conservation.

The visual language was intentionally clean and minimal, allowing each bird to stand as a centerpiece—both as a biological marvel and as a subject of storytelling. This project reflects my ongoing interest in nature-inspired narratives and in using design as a way to spark awareness and emotional connection.

Silvia’s illustrations brought a fresh, deeply thoughtful perspective to our scientific work. Her ability to translate biodiversity into emotionally resonant visuals was exactly what we needed to reach a wider audience. The result was both visually stunning and profoundly meaningful.
